Intensive Care Air Ambulance Transfer for Intubated Patient: From Tbilisi to Istanbul

On July 19, 2025, the Turkish Medical Service team successfully completed the critical transfer of a patient under intensive care with multiple traumas and acute respiratory failure from Tbilisi to Istanbul. The operation was carried out using a fully equipped air ambulance and an experienced medical escort team, ensuring patient safety throughout the journey.

🔍 Medical Condition and Pre-Flight Preparation
The patient had sustained severe trauma and was under intensive care with the following diagnoses:
Traumatic Brain Injury: Subarachnoid and subdural hemorrhage
Skeletal Fractures: Multiple
ARDS: Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome
Respiratory Support: Orotracheal intubation and mechanical ventilation
Sedation: Continuous IV infusion of Midazolam and Fentanyl
Ventilator Settings: SIMV mode, FiO₂ 65%, PEEP 9
Glasgow Coma Score (GCS): 5 (E:3, V:1, M:1)
Comorbidities: Diabetes Mellitus, Hypertension
All medical equipment checks, medication administration, and nutritional support protocols were fully completed before departure.

The patient was transported under intensive care unit (ICU) conditions throughout the flight:
Blood Pressure: 125/70 – 138/83 mmHg
Heart Rate: 70 – 82 bpm
Oxygen Saturation (SpO₂): 94% – 100%
EtCO₂: 35 – 40 mmHg
Body Temperature: 37.2°C
There were no complications such as hypotension, desaturation, or equipment failure. The ventilator operated effectively, and enteral nutrition was continued without interruption.
