Passenger Service Coded WCHR / WCHS / WCHC

There are three different codes defined in airline systems for passengers requiring a wheelchair:

  • WCHR: A passenger who can walk to the plane but cannot walk long distances.

  • WCHS: Passenger who cannot climb stairs but can walk within the cabin.

  • WCHC: A passenger who requires assistance at every stage of the flight from the door to their seat.

As Turkish Medical Service, we plan appropriate support for each category of passengers and manage reservation and notification processes completely.

Pre-flight and post-flight transfer processes are of great importance for patients traveling with a wheelchair.

We offer a complete service from the airport entrance to the boarding gate with our specially trained staff and equipped vehicles.

We also provide luggage, documents and seat organization for the passenger .

Airport Transfer and Flight Support

Wheelchair Transport with Companion

In most cases, it is recommended that passengers with limited mobility are accompanied by a companion for the duration of the flight.

We provide medical companion (nurse, paramedic) support, especially for people with chronic diseases or communication difficulties.

On flights with THY, the positioning of this companion and ticketing procedures are also coordinated by us.

In the aircraft cabin, suitable seats are reserved especially for WCHC passengers.

Generally, the first rows or the front sections other than emergency exits are preferred.

A special “aisle chair” (narrow chair) is used for in-flight transfers.

Turkish Medical Service takes an active role in selecting the seat appropriate for the passenger's condition and request.

Wheelchair Access and Seat Planning on Aircraft

Situations Requiring Medical Evaluation

In some cases, a fit-to-fly assessment may be required for wheelchair passengers prior to their flight.

This report is especially necessary in cases such as paralysis, advanced age, respiratory problems, and mental disorders.

Our experts prepare the necessary documents and ensure communication with THY's medical unit.
